Sky: AC Milan have chosen the new coach

AC Milan’s search for a new coach is coming to an end with Paulo Fonseca set to succeed Stefano Pioli according to Sky Sport.

At the end of the season AC Milan and Stefano Pioli will part ways. The Italian coach will leave after five seasons in charge of the Rossoneri and one Scudetto title won. The vast majority of fans would like Antonio Conte to succeed Stefano Pioli as AC Milan coach but that will not be the case unfortunately. The management has decided to bring in a foreign coach it looks like Paulo Fonseca has won the race with his compatriot Sergio Conceicao and other candidates.

Sky Sport journalist Peppe Di Stefano reportsThe evaluations by the management continue. Let’s try to give a picture based on what we know. AC Milan are waiting to announce the new coach because the league is not over neither in Serie A or Ligue 1. I say this because AC Milan have chosen their coach and it is Paulo Fonseca, former Roma coach who is currently managing Lille in France and whose contract expires at the end of the championship.

Paulo Fonseca will meet with the French club at the end of the season. Lille have offered him a new contract but the Portuguese coach has other plans. Marseille are also trying everything to bring him to their club and have offered him a very lucrative contract. However, Fonseca remains AC Milan’s top pick for the job due to a number of reasons.

First of all, Fonseca, is a coach who already uses the same game system that AC Milan use under Stefano Pioli. He is well prepared technically and balanced on and off the pitch. A perfect match according to the Rossoneri management. They see in Fonseca a coach with whom they can share the project, the prospects, the present and the future. Unlike Conte who is considered a cumbersome figure, the Portuguese coach is viewed as someone with whom decisions can be shared and will not make thorny transfer request”.

Di Stefano ends his report saying that everything will be more clear in the next seven days. AC Milan would be Paulo Fonseca’s second Italian club. The Portuguese coach was in charge of Roma for two seasons between 2019 and 2021. His tenure at the capitol was unsuccessful with Roma staying out of the top four for both years. Fonseca achieved notable success in Ukraine with Shakhtar Donetsk winning three league titles while he is currently leading Lille towards Champions League qualification.
